Yield Guild Games (YGG) is a decentralized autonomous organization that allows players to earn yield in blockchain-based games and virtual worlds. YGG invests in NFTs and other in-game assets and rents them out to players who use them to generate income. YGG members, known as "scholars," can earn YGG tokens by staking them or by participating in the guild's governance process. The YGG token is used to vote on proposals for the guild's future investments and initiatives. The goal of YGG is to create a more inclusive and equitable gaming economy by enabling players worldwide to earn a living through play-to-earn games.

Yield Guild Games (YGG) is a guild protocol built to support the creation, coordination, and growth of onchain guilds. Originally launched in 2020 as a play-to-earn gaming guild, it has evolved into a modular protocol that enables users to organise communities, participate in decentralised activities, and build web3 reputation through verifiable onchain actions.

The Guild Protocol allows any user to create an Onchain Guild with its own treasury, membership system, and activity history. These guilds can organise quests, manage assets, and coordinate large-scale participation in gaming and other digital labour environments. Guild members can earn non-transferable NFTs (soulbound tokens) that represent verifiable achievements and identity onchain.

The system is modular and includes infrastructure for wallets, governance, asset management, and work coordination. Guilds can use these tools to run programmes such as esports teams, content creation, game testing, moderation, and AI data labelling. Over 750 quests have been launched across 29 game partners, with more than 12,000 participants in initiatives such as the Guild Advancement Program and Superquests.

While gaming is the protocol’s core sector, the model is designed to extend into other areas where onchain coordination and reputation tracking are beneficial. Onchain Guilds may evolve into groups for creative collaboration, real-world communities, or industry-specific initiatives.

Yield Guild Games (YGG) is the native token of the Guild Protocol and is used to activate, access, and participate in the network’s onchain coordination systems. It enables token-based interaction with protocol features, supports governance, and aligns incentives across community members and partner projects.

YGG is used to:

  • Burn tokens to create Onchain Guilds and mint access passes
  • Stake for access to reward programmes and participation boosts
  • Distribute rewards and incentives to protocol participants
  • Engage in governance and guild-level decision-making
  • Facilitate partnerships by exchanging tokens for community assets

The token operates within a framework that includes direct participation, long-term staking, and integration into activity-based reward systems. A significant share of the token allocation is reserved for community engagement and contributor rewards.

Yield Guild Games was co-founded by Gabby Dizon, Beryl Li, and Owl of Moistness. It is supported by a team of over 50 contributors from around the world, including developers, product managers, esports coordinators, and community leaders. The organisation operates independently and has transitioned from a single gaming guild into a decentralised coordination protocol.
