Aggregation Summit 2024: Pioneering Web3’s Path to Unification

Is Web3 on the verge of unifying blockchain ecosystems, or are we still grappling with fragmentation? At the recent Aggregation Summit (AggSummit), held in Bangkok’s True Digital Park, thought leaders, developers, and innovators gathered to tackle this very question and to collaborate on solutions.
The Vision Behind Aggregation
Web3 holds the promise of a decentralized, interoperable ecosystem, but fragmentation has long stood in the way. Siloed chains and competing solutions have created unnecessary complexity, complicating experiences for both developers and users.
Aggregation offers a transformative solution. The AggLayer acts as a unifying framework, enabling seamless cross-chain collaboration while simplifying development. With the AggLayer, developers can bypass the challenges of multi-chain environments, and users gain access to a more intuitive, interconnected blockchain experience. It doesn’t just enhance interoperability—it redefines it, allowing sovereign chains to collaborate securely, enabling efficient dApp operations, and promoting free-flowing liquidity.
This was the vision for AggSummit, co-hosted in Bangkok on November 10th and 11th by Polygon Labs, Magic Labs and Protocol Labs, amongst other sponsors. Bringing together developers, innovators, and thought leaders, the event served as a platform to explore how aggregation will unlock Web3’s full potential.
Adding momentum to the summit, Polygon Labs launched the Therapy initiative weeks beforehand, as a light-hearted way to recognize common developer frustrations with the complexities of working in Web3. This event marketing campaign used humor by offering support and resources in the form of a Web3-specific therapist for developers. By fostering a sense of community around common challenges in a tongue and cheek way, the event organizers were able to set the tone for AggSummit both in terms of the key themes and also the camaraderie that would be had there. This event reinforced the industry’s collective drive to achieve Web3’s promise of an interconnected future that is approachable and welcoming for everyone.
Building Bridges Within the Community
AggSummit wasn’t just about technical discussions—it was a celebration of community and collaboration across Web3. True Digital Park provided a futuristic and vibrant backdrop where innovation met inclusivity. Attendees participated in technical workshops and side events, creating an atmosphere that was as dynamic as the technology being discussed. Networking opportunities were found left and right for those seeking to foster connections.
One of AggSummit’s standout features was its open speaker application process, which allowed smaller voices to share the stage with industry titans and giants. This inclusive approach highlighted the diverse talent driving Web3 forward, proving that innovation doesn’t only come from the top and that everyone is welcome to share and collaborate.
The collaborative spirit was alive and well throughout the event. An attendee said it best when asked about the event: “It isn’t just about learning—it’s about building. The energy here is electric, and you can feel the momentum toward something bigger.”
Highlights from AggSummit
At AggSummit, the speakers presenting were visionaries and builders who are driving the next phase of Web3.
Arbitrum’s Steven Goldfeder discussed the organization’s origins from a 2014 Princeton class on blockchain scaling and its journey to addressing Ethereum’s growing demands. He highlighted Arbitrum’s new Stylus technology, which enables developers to write smart contracts in traditional languages like Rust and C++, interoperable with the EVM. Goldfeder emphasized the critical role of ecosystem collaboration, naming partners like stablecoin providers and Espresso Systems.
Jordi Baylina, co-founder of Polygon Labs, led a 90-minute workshop exploring proof generation and innovations in PIL2 through live whiteboarding. Attendees gained a real-time glimpse into Baylina’s groundbreaking ideas, showcasing the mechanics and future potential of aggregation.
Ellie Davidson, Head of R&D at Espresso Systems, detailed CIRC (Coordinated Inter-Rollup Communication), a protocol enabling synchronous composability across chains without compromising scalability or sovereignty. Her talk illustrated how cryptographic enforcement and seamless cross-chain operations can enable real-world applications like flash loans and atomic swaps.
Sean Li, CEO of Magic, addressed the challenges of Web3 fragmentation, proposing a chain-abstracted paradigm to simplify dApp development. Magic Passport aims to unify user experiences and streamline blockchain interactions, paving the way for a more cohesive Web3 ecosystem.

Major Announcements at a Glance
AggSummit was also a platform for unveiling game-changing innovations, each aligned with the AggLayer’s vision for interoperability:
- Agora’s AUSD: A Native Stablecoin for the AggLayerAgora announced AUSD, a native and fungible stablecoin managed and custodied by asset management giants VanEck and State Street. It is designed to enhance the AggLayer’s aggregated liquidity. By supporting seamless cross-chain functionality, AUSD addresses a critical need in the Web3 ecosystem, making stablecoin usage more efficient and reliable across sovereign chains.
- Magic Labs’ Newton: The First Chain Unification NetworkNewton, the first-ever chain unification network, was introduced by Magic Labs. This groundbreaking technology aims to provide seamless cross-chain wallet connections, simplifying blockchain interactions for both developers and users. Newton’s mission aligns perfectly with AggLayer’s goal of creating a cohesive Web3 ecosystem. Polygon Labs will help in bringing this vision to reality.
- Okto Wallet Integration: Simplifying Aggregated Chain ExperiencesOkto announced its integration with the AggLayer, enhancing user experiences by tackling the complexity of multi-chain operations. The Okto Wallet simplifies blockchain interactions by aggregating multiple chains into a unified interface, eliminating the need for users to manage assets or operations separately on each chain. This ensures that users can navigate the aggregated ecosystem intuitively and efficiently.
These announcements represent significant steps toward realizing a fully interoperable Web3. Each innovation demonstrates how the AggLayer is turning the vision of aggregation into reality.
Why It All Matters
AggSummit wasn’t just an event—it was a milestone for blockchain. It inspired collaboration, showcased the state of technical interoperability, and paved the way for a more connected Web3 future.
The event showcased the power of aggregation not just as a technological solution, but as a unifying principle for the entire blockchain industry.
The implications of AggSummit go beyond the announcements and workshops—it represents a shift in how we approach Web3. It’s a movement toward breaking down silos, fostering collaboration, and creating a truly interoperable future.
