Creating an Impactful Community

A strong community has the ability to curate more power than any organized group. Top brands, cultures, sports teams, films and social movements have shown that the emotional investment of its devotees can and do invoke change. A creator only needs to find the right amount of true fans in order to establish an impactful community.
But creating an impactful community takes more than just establishing your fans. In the web3 read-write-own era of the internet, we’ve seen that ownership is an important tool for community building. By providing a medium for fans to communicate, as well as providing opportunities to own both digital and physical community merchandise, fans readily show off their support and band together in a community.
In web3, many fan communities have formed around the ownership of non-fungible tokens. or NFTs. To show their membership in a community, fans of projects like CryptoPunks or Pudgy Penguins display their NFT as a Twitter profile picture and engage with other holders on Discord.
In many ways, the findability of NFTs through profile pictures is what makes them valuable. Many community members proudly display their NFTs and use that as a conversation starter with their peers. Yet the value of your artwork doesn’t necessarily need to be something shared with everyone. Sometimes, making it findable just to you, as a private owner or displaying it in your own home, is enough to provide internal value through patronage.
Fans want to pay their favorite groups, artists, brands and creators, in part as a way to show their appreciation, but also as a way to connect. Connections go beyond the creator, but also with other members of the fandom. This patronage is what allows you to connect, share ideas and enjoy what you like most, together with other like minded individuals.
Creating patronage and making owned art visible isn’t limited to the world of web3 and NFTs. In fact, we’ve been seeing many different groups utilize these community building tools through Displate, the largest marketplace where artists celebrate community for collectable metal posters.
Displate provides a wide range of fan-focused artwork for users to choose from, including unique pieces for fans of Star Wars, Overwatch, Arsenal, Marvel and more. Users can search through collections of artwork for both the most popular fandoms and up-and-coming communities as well.
Generally, people are averse to fake brands that pretend to be something or someone just because they expect profit. But all of the artworks displayed on Displate are created by brands truly looking to cultivate a positive community.
Uniquely, Displate’s dedication to creating a culture supportive of many community-forward brands has led to the formation of its own community. It’s hard to find a company that is just as geeky as you are, but Displate’s community was created as a space to combine passions with commerce. With the ability to create, customize and collect on Displate, each member in Displate’s community is an ambassador of both Displate and their other fandoms.
It’s Displate’s authenticity that has made it such a popular community platform. Instead of pretending to like the same things as everyone on the platform,The creators of Displate aren't simply pretending to have the same interests; they genuinely belong to the same fandoms as their users. Oftentimes, Displate can be seen engaging, exchanging ideas and sometimes looking for advice from their community.
A group of individuals that share common interests and passions are much greater than the product itself. Displate’s ability to both bring communities together and create a unique community of its own demonstrates how creating patronage through findable pieces of art can develop a strong community.
