Best Universities for Blockchain 2022: Monash University
Australia's largest university features a blockchain research center that has built several protocols, landing the school at the No. 29 spot. This story is part of CoinDesk's Education Week.

Monash University, based in Melbourne, is part of the Group of Eight, Australia's top universities. Renowned for its research, it is is also the country's largest, with six campuses around Melbourne plus overseas campuses in China, India, Indonesia, Italy and Malaysia.

The Monash Blockchain Technology Centre is, its website says, on "the blockchain innovation journey." The aim of the center is to develop new technologies to use in blockchain systems, design and teach blockchain courses and programs across curriculums, and provide training for different sectors of industry. It has produced protocols including RepuCoin, a blockchain system with advanced consensus protocol that is able to tolerate the well-known 51% attacks.
Events at Monash have included the Monash Blockchain Hackathon, a Fintech Bootcamp, and conferences about blockchain and financial technology. Furthermore, students formed the Monash Blockchain Society and Monash Blockchain Alliance.
Monash University currently offers two courses and a Masters in Cybersecurity, which includes learning about blockchain. The university also offers online certificates about blockchain.
Monash University is one of the 10 recipients of the Algorand Foundation's Algorand Centers of Excellece to support more blockchain technology projects.

Cathy is in the penultimate class to graduate from Yale-NUS College in Singapore, where she majors in mathematics. Cathy joined the Best Universities for Blockchain team in July 2022 to apply her data research and analytics skills.
