The Wharton Blockchain and Digital Asset Project is a research initiative and think tank focused on the evolving blockchain phenomenon founded by distinguished professor and expert on emerging technologies, Kevin Werbach. In 2021, Werbach designed Wharton's Economics of Blockchain and Digital Assets executive education online certificate program. It made news as UPenn became the first Ivy League school to accept enrollment payment in crypto.
UPenn offers eight classes on blockchain, many drawing from multiple disciplines across the university, such as Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies: Business, Legal and Regulatory Considerations, and Internet Law, Privacy, and Cybersecurity.
The university has a packed calendar of blockchain-related conferences, including the Wharton Fintech Conference 2022 and the Penn Blockchain Conference 2022, which has announced 2023 dates as well. Student groups like the Penn Blockchain Club and Wharton Fintech add another layer of events and camaraderie over shared interest in blockchain.
