Horizen is an ecosystem that rewards contributors and empowers everyone. Its scalable platform allows businesses and developers to create public or private blockchains easily and affordably using the largest node network in the industry. The Sidechain SDK provides all the necessary components for quick deployment of a fully customizable blockchain. The native cryptocurrency, ZEN, is a mineable PoW coin traded on various exchanges, and integrated on major wallets including Sphere by Horizen, a multifunctional wallet that serves as an interface with most Horizen products and services.

Horizen (ZEN) is a digital cryptocurrency and an integral part of the Horizen platform. The platform is a privacy-oriented blockchain network that aims to deliver an inclusive ecosystem where everyone is empowered and rewarded for their contributions.

The ZEN token itself is a mineable cryptocurrency that uses a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus algorithm similar to Bitcoin, but with an altered block reward allocation. ZEN can be held, transacted, or used as fees in the Horizen ecosystem.

The Horizen platform is built to host multiple sidechains while offering enhanced privacy features. The platform hosts a number of applications, including ZENChat, a private messenger, and ZENHide, which allows users to avoid traffic analysis. These applications, along with a focus on scalability, aim to provide enhanced privacy and freedom for its users.

ZEN, as the native cryptocurrency of the Horizen platform, is used for a variety of functions. It can be used as a currency for private or transparent transactions, as a means of participating in the governance of the network, as well as for staking in the Secure and Super Node systems. Secure and Super Nodes earn ZEN for maintaining the network and providing services such as the secure transmission of data.

Horizen, previously known as ZenCash, was co-founded by Robert Viglione and Rolf Versluis in 2017. Viglione, who has a background in the U.S. military and in physics, previously worked on the Zclassic project. Versluis, an experienced executive and engineer, also has a military background, having served in the U.S. Navy.
