Best Universities for Blockchain 2022: Zhejiang University
The No. 24 school offered the first blockchain course in China. This story is part of CoinDesk's Education Week.

Located in a prosperous province in southeastern China, Zhejiang University has played an essential role in blockchain education in the country. Considered the first mover of blockchain education, the distinguished university ranked No. 25 in the CoinDesk Best Universities for Blockchain 2022.

The Hangzhou-based university offered the very first blockchain course in mainland China in 2018, Blockchain and Digital Currency. One year later, Professor Chun Chen, the current director of the Blockchain Research Center at Zhejiang University, explained blockchain to President Xi Jinping, thus kick-starting the country's ambition to lead the world in mastering this emerging technology. In 2020, about 100 master's students started in the inaugural three-year, blockchain-specific master's program.
Benefiting from its location in Hangzhou, a major economic and e-commerce hub, Zhejiang creates an entrepreneur-friendly environment for students to bring their ideas into practice. Founders of some well-known Web3 projects are alumni, including Jerry Huang, co-founder of Web3 move-and-earn mobile game Stepn, who has a degree in computer science.
