About Movement
Movement (MOVE) is a cryptocurrency integral to the Movement Network, designed to enable secure, high-performance, and interoperable blockchain applications by bridging the Move programming language and EVM ecosystems. It is utilized for transaction fees, governance, and network security within the ecosystem. Movement Labs, backed by notable investors, developed the network and its associated cryptocurrency.
Movement (MOVE) is the native cryptocurrency of the Movement Network, a platform of modular, Move-based blockchains designed to empower developers in creating secure, high-performance, and interoperable blockchain applications. It serves as a bridge between the Move and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) ecosystems, being the first Layer 2 solution for Ethereum that utilizes Move technology.
The Movement Network integrates the Move programming language, originally developed by Meta (formerly Facebook), to enhance security and efficiency in smart contract development. By combining Move's advanced features with Ethereum's established infrastructure, Movement aims to improve the Ethereum ecosystem by introducing superior security features and a diverse range of new developers and applications.
MOVE tokens serve multiple functions within the Movement Network ecosystem:
- Transaction Fees: MOVE is used to pay for gas fees on the Movement Network's Layer 2 platform. A portion of these fees is allocated to settle transactions on the Ethereum Mainnet.
- Staking for Economic Security: Validators stake MOVE tokens to provide economic security for the network. By confirming the correctness of the network's state, active validators receive MOVE staking rewards.
- Governance and Decentralization: MOVE token holders can participate in the decentralization of governance over time. They have the ability to propose and vote on governance proposals to change certain network parameters and engage in future community initiatives.
- Native Asset Utility: As the native asset of the Movement Network, MOVE is utilized in various applications built on the network, including asset liquidity, collateral, and payment solutions.
