Syscoin (SYS) is a blockchain protocol founded in 2014 by Sebastian Schepis, designed to merge the security of Bitcoin with the functionality of Ethereum into a single, scalable platform. It supports the creation of decentralized applications and custom tokens, leveraging a dual-chain architecture that includes the Ethereum-compatible NEVM and a Bitcoin-based Syscoin UTXO blockchain. Syscoin aims to offer fast, secure, and low-cost transactions, with features like optimistic and ZK rollups for enhanced scalability. Led by the non-profit Syscoin Foundation, with development spearheaded by SYS Labs, the ecosystem fosters innovation in decentralized finance (DeFi) and NFT marketplaces. Syscoin (SYS) is an innovative blockchain protocol that emerged in 2014, aiming to blend the security and robustness of Bitcoin's blockchain with the versatile functionality of Ethereum. It is designed to offer a scalable, secure, and low-cost environment for transactions and the development of decentralized applications (dApps) and custom tokens. Syscoin features a unique dual-chain architecture comprising the Network Enhanced Virtual Machine (NEVM), compatible with Ethereum's smart contracts, and the Syscoin UTXO blockchain, which integrates Bitcoin's features including Taproot, and a proprietary Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) protocol called Z-DAG. This hybrid approach enables Syscoin to offer a platform that combines the strengths of both leading blockchain models, fostering new synergies such as the Proof of Data Availability (PoDA) service.
Syscoin was founded by Sebastian Schepis in 2014, a notable figure in the tech world with a background in creating enterprise management systems and consulting for major corporations. Today, the project is led by the Syscoin Foundation, a non-profit organization, with key figures including Jagdeep Sidhu as Foundation President and Lead Developer, and Michiel Näring as Vice President. SYS Labs, a dedicated enterprise, spearheads the development of flagship applications and systems on the Syscoin blockchain, such as Rollux, SuperDapp, Pegasys DAO, and Luxy.
