About Wownero
Wownero (WOW) is a privacy-focused, meme-driven cryptocurrency launched in 2018 as a fork of Monero. It supports anonymous transactions, solo CPU mining, and operates through fully community-driven development.
Wownero (WOW) is a privacy-focused, meme-inspired cryptocurrency that launched on 1 April 2018. It is a software fork of Monero (XMR), designed to be CPU-mineable and resistant to ASICs and mining pools. Wownero integrates privacy features such as ring signatures, stealth addresses, and Ring Confidential Transactions (RingCT), with a larger ring size of 22 for enhanced anonymity. Its mining algorithm has evolved from CryptoNight variants to a lighter version of RandomX called RandomWOW, optimised for solo mining on general-purpose CPUs. Wownero has a capped supply of 184 million coins, emitted over approximately 50 years, with no premine, initial coin offering (ICO), developer tax, or trusted setup.
Wownero primarily serves as a decentralised digital currency for micro-tipping meme creators and engaging in community-driven activities. It is used on platforms like SuchWOW.xyz for tipping original content creators with "sound magic internet money." Its privacy-centric design allows users to transact anonymously. Additionally, Wownero facilitates solo mining and promotes community contributions through open-source development, funding proposals, and creative content creation, including memes, art, and tutorials. It also supports experimental use cases like betting on online snail racing. Wownero is listed on decentralised and privacy-respecting exchanges, supporting atomic swaps for peer-to-peer trading.
