Best Universities for Blockchain 2022: Peking University

With more blockchain-related courses than any other school in mainland China, Peking University attains this year’s No. 13 spot. This story is part of CoinDesk's Education Week.

Peking University, ranked as one of the top five universities in Asia in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings, also brings its blockchain education up to a superior standard. With two well-established blockchain-specific research centers, the prominent Beijing-based university ranked 13th in the CoinDesk Best Universities for Blockchain 2022.

The Peking University Blockchain Research Center, established in 2018 under the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, is dedicated to blockchain-related research and talent education, including master's and doctoral degrees. The Frontiers in Blockchain Research Lab was launched two years later. Led by Professor Xiaotie Deng, the newer center focuses on fundamental theories related to the field of blockchain and studies the latest developments in the emerging industry, such as smart contracts and cross-chain communication technology.

The university has 10 blockchain-related classes, the most in mainland China. Some course content is recorded and published on video-sharing websites in China and the west. Blockchain Technology and Applications, taught by Zhen Xiao, a professor at the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, has gained almost 150,000 views on YouTube.
